My dancing career started with a choreographed Rumba at our wedding, then like most guys, I stopped that crazy dancing stuff that’s “meant for girls”. Years later Zumba showed me dance can be fun, not frightening, masculine as well as feminine, and a way to get fit. Recently NIA has taught me to be aware of my body as I dance. The Two Step showed how easy it can be to look smooth when you’re not. Soon Ballroom instruction will either make or break my marriage—I’m betting on make, that’s why I signed us up. Unfortunately, I haven’t danced enough in my life and neither do most men. Guys, Cowboy Up! You’re doing yourself and the women of the world a disservice! January 31st, find a dance class, any class. They’ll welcome you, even if at first, like me, you look like The Tin Man or The Scarecrow or a Suburban Cowboy. As an early instructor once told me, “If you’re moving, you’re doing it right.” Cowboy…UP!
