This story began years ago, on a starry starry night in Austin Texas

Years ago on New Year’s Eve, a group of us drove to a hilltop to watch the stars, drink some wine and hang out on a beautiful winter evening. Someone put a tape cassette in the tape player, opened the car doors and cranked it up – the music of John Denver. The experience was truly mesmerizing. My wife Lenora and I decided that “meeting John Denver” was now one of our life goals!

The trip continues on a Southwest Airline flight

I was boarding a flight to Austin and was seated next to a woman named Sara. During the flight we discovered that we shared a love of learning and she invited Lenora and I to join her for an upcoming workshop named the Magic of Conflict. The workshop was to be presented by a man named Tom Crum.

John Denver’s Partner

The Magic of Conflict was a great workshop and Tom Crum was an interesting and inspiring man. After the workshop we had the opportunity to visit with Tom and we learned that he was involved in an educational initiative that focused on creating a sustainable environment for Planet Earth. The project was named Windstar. He also shared that his partner in creating Windstar was John Denver.

Windstar Foundation

Lenora and I attended the next Windstar conference and many successive conferences. We became involved with Windstar and also had the wonderful opportunity to meet and get to know John Denver. Originally we were moved by John’s music; subsequently, we became inspired by his vision of clean health, clean air and clean water and now incorporate those visions & values into our relationships with our children, grandchildren and our community.
