When I walked into the Austin Humane Society in 2012, I had just lost my cat of sixteen years, and Maggie was two years old, skinny, scraggly, and shy. However, she seemed to want to get to know me. After I sat with her for about twenty minutes, I knew she was the one, so I took her home.

Maggie has turned out to be spunky, quiet, and loving, and she's now a certified therapy dog with Divine Canines. She loves to eat and will do anything for a treat, which is quite a hit when we visit inmates as part of her therapy work.

She has gone on road trips, had two bouts of heartworm treatment, and survived a rattlesnake bite! She has also forced me to get outside and be open to new people and new experiences. For all this, I am thankful, and I will forever say that we rescued each other.
